What is now central Park Apartments was for 35 years one of the only hotel options in Rexburg. If you ever visited Rexburg between 1977-2011 and stayed in a hotel, there is a good chance you have stayed here!
The property opened in 1977 as a hotel and an icon in the city. Where else in the city could you find a 4,000 square foot indoor atrium with natural light, vegetation, trees, and an indoor swimming pool! The property has changed hands over the years and has been known as the “Best Western”, “Cotton Tree Inn” or simply “The hotel behind the Frontier Pies”. More recently, an ownership group purchased the hotel and renamed it the “Magnuson Hotel”.
Unfortunately, time has not been a friend to the hotel. Year after year, guest after guest, the hotel started to show its age. New hotels in the city brought new competition and occupancy decreased. As occupancy decreased, funds dwindled and the hotel quickly fell into disrepair. 2011 was the final year for the hotel as it fell into foreclosure and the bank took possession of it. Many different hotel groups looked at possibly purchasing the hotel from the bank, but no one was able to make it make sense. All that changed when EdgeCreek took a look at it. They bought the hotel and closed its doors in October 2011.
EdgeCreek is a private real estate company that specializes in student housing. They are one of the largest apartment owners in Rexburg and they saw the opportunity to restore the property to its original glory! The transformation took many months, a couple million dollars, and a lot of creative thinking. The end result is amazing!
In 2012, we opened the doors of our newest apartment in Rexburg, Central Park! The name comes from the concept of our indoor atrium with natural light, vegetation, trees, and indoor pool, centrally located in the middle of our complex. Our very own indoor “Park” where residents can enjoy the park, year round!
Central Park is community housing so everyone is invited! Most of the demand for housing comes from newlywed students attending BYU-Idaho. With this in mind, we were cost conscience in all of our decision making. Most units are Studio Apartments with four floor plans. Units are rented fully furnished with a elevated queen size bed, two-three draw dressers, lamps, chairs, a desk & table, full fridge, microwave, hot plate, kitchen sink, and clothes closet. We will offer the best possible housing, at the best possible price.
